How to Transfer Facebook Page Ownership Safely

Transfer Facebook Page ownership safely. Follow full-control steps, business account release rules, and a handover checklist before removing the old owner.

How you can transfer Facebook page ownership without hassle

To transfer Facebook Page ownership, first check whether you are handing control to another person or moving the Page between business portfolios. A person needs Facebook access with full control; a Page owned by a business portfolio also needs a separate ownership handover. Adding an admin alone does not move the Page out of the old business account.

Start in Page setup > Page access. Follow the person-to-person steps or the business account release steps below, and keep the old access until the receiving owner confirms control.

Before You Start: Page Access or Business Ownership?

Facebook uses different permissions for people and businesses. Check both before starting the handover:

  • Facebook access with full control: lets a person manage the Page and other people's access. Only give this to a trusted owner: they can remove you or delete the Page.
  • Task access: lets someone do assigned work through tools such as Meta Business Suite. It does not let them switch into the Page or manage Page access, so it is not enough for a person-to-person handover.
  • Business account access: shows whether a business portfolio owns the Page. Giving a person full control does not change the owning portfolio. Agency or partner access is not an ownership transfer either.

See Meta's explanation of Facebook Page access levels. A blue verification badge is not a general prerequisite for changing Page access; complete any security or identity checks Meta presents to your account. A business portfolio is only needed for the business-ownership route, not every personal access change.

Before proceeding, confirm that the current owner can manage access, agree who will receive control, and enable two-factor authentication. Never share personal Facebook passwords. Keep at least one trusted person with full control throughout the handover.

How to Transfer Facebook Page Ownership to Another Person

Step-by-Step Guide

Use this route when changing the person in control of a Page. If the Page must also move to a different owning business, complete the business release section before ending the old owner's access. Changing staff within the same owning business does not require releasing the Page.

1. Open Page Access Settings

Log in with the profile that has full control. Open your profile menu, choose See all profiles, and switch into the Page. Then open Settings & privacy > Settings > Page setup > Page access. Meta's instructions for viewing Page access show this route. Menu placement can differ between devices.

2. Give the New Owner Facebook Access with Full Control

Under People with Facebook access, select Add New and identify the correct person by name or email. Enable Allow this person to have full control, choose Give Access, and confirm with your password if prompted. Do not select task access as a substitute.

Check the recipient's profile carefully before confirming. Meta explains who can give, edit or remove Page access.

3. Have the New Owner Accept and Test Access

The recipient must accept the invitation while signed into the correct Facebook account. An invitation still marked pending is not a completed handover. Have the new owner switch into the Page, open Page access, and confirm that they can manage access, not just publish content.

If the Page belongs to a business portfolio, check the owning business separately. The new person appearing on the access list does not prove that business ownership has changed.

4. Remove the Previous Owner Only After Confirmation

Once the receiving owner has tested full control and any business-ownership change is complete, return to Page access. Use the menu beside the departing person's name to remove their access and confirm any security prompt. The receiving owner can do this after taking control. Do not delete the Page or remove the only person with full control.

Review old employee, agency and partner permissions separately. Remove only access covered by the agreed handover; do not remove someone from an entire business portfolio merely to hand over one Page.

Transfer a Facebook Page from a Business Account

A business portfolio, formerly called Business Manager, can own a Page independently of the people managing it. For a sale or a move between businesses, the current business must release the Page and the receiving business must add it to its portfolio. Requesting access or assigning a partner does not transfer ownership. For the full Business Manager walkthrough — adding admins, submitting the ownership request, and confirming roles — see our guide to transferring page ownership in Facebook Business Manager.

Request Release from the Current Business

Meta provides an ownership-release request process for someone with full Facebook access to a Page owned by a business account:

  1. Switch into the Page and open Settings & privacy > Settings > Page setup > Page access.
  2. Under Business account access, find the business that owns the Page and select Request release, when available.
  3. Submit the request and coordinate with an administrator of that business. They approve or reject it in Meta Business Suite.
  4. Keep your access while the request is pending. Meta describes a request window of up to 30 days and a 72-hour grace period after approval before release. This is not a promise of an instant transfer or automatic approval after 30 days.

If the business administrator can arrange the release directly, coordinate with them rather than creating duplicate requests. Follow any restrictions Meta displays for the Page. Meta notes that a linked Instagram account can prevent approval of a release request; review that connection with the current business administrator before changing it.

Add the Released Page to the Receiving Portfolio

After release, the receiving owner should use Meta Business Suite's business settings to add the existing Page to their business portfolio. Confirm the receiving business is now listed as the owner and the correct people retain full control. Do not treat a request for shared access as a completed ownership change.

A Page handover does not automatically transfer every connected asset. Separately review Instagram access, ad accounts, payment methods and other business assets before withdrawing the old business's permissions.

Troubleshooting Facebook Page Ownership Transfers

Troubleshooting and Common Issues

You Cannot See Add New or Manage Access

Check whether you have Facebook access with full control, rather than task access or partial control. Ask someone who already has full control to review your permissions. Following the Page is not a replacement for access. Avoid removing and reinviting working administrators as a troubleshooting shortcut.

The Invitation Is Still Pending

Confirm the invited profile or email, ask the recipient to check notifications and email, and make sure they accept while signed into the right account. If you resend, verify which invitation is active before removing anyone. Complete any security prompts shown by Meta.

The Page Is Already Owned by Another Business

Adding another admin or requesting partner access will not release it. Identify the owning business under Business account access, contact its administrator, and follow the release process above. If a request is already pending, resolve it before submitting another. If release is unavailable, check Page access, connected-account restrictions and Meta's displayed eligibility message.

The Current Owner Is Unavailable or Will Not Cooperate

There is no self-service permission bypass. Contact another person with full control or use the support or recovery options Meta makes available to your account. Keep records showing your authority to represent the business and the Page involved. Recovery and disputes are separate from an agreed handover; do not assume Meta will approve a transfer or guarantee a resolution time.

Facebook Page Handover Checklist

Before the old owner leaves, confirm each item with the receiving owner:

  • The invitation has been accepted, and the new owner can switch into the Page and manage access.
  • If business ownership is changing, the old portfolio has released the Page and the receiving portfolio is listed correctly; otherwise the existing owning business remains unchanged.
  • Posts, photos, followers and existing reviews remain on the same Page; no replacement Page was created.
  • Connected accounts, advertising and billing permissions have been reviewed separately.
  • Only the departing people or partners covered by the handover have been removed, with trusted full-control access retained.
  • Review-management and other connected tools have been checked so the new team can continue its work.

Keep Managing Reviews After the Handover

Once Page access is settled, check that the new team can continue reading and answering customer feedback. HiFiveStar does not transfer Facebook Page ownership; it helps local businesses manage reviews after the handover.

On every plan, including the free-forever plan, a connected Facebook Page's reviews are checked hourly and brought into the Reviews inbox alongside supported sources such as Google and Yelp. Each location also gets a review link and QR code, and website widgets can display reviews.

Paid plans add review requests by text, email and WhatsApp, AI reply drafts, and Analytics. Text requests have daily per-location limits; email and WhatsApp requests have no limit. For Facebook reviews, edit and copy a reply draft, then paste it on Facebook: HiFiveStar does not post Facebook replies for you. After the trial, the free-forever plan includes neither review requests nor AI reply drafts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transfer Facebook Page ownership?

Changing personal Page access can be quick once the recipient accepts and tests full control. A business-account release is different: Meta describes a request window of up to 30 days, then a 72-hour grace period after approval. Allow for that process and any account restrictions rather than promising a same-day business transfer.

Can I transfer a Facebook Page without the current owner?

You cannot bypass the permissions of the person or business controlling the Page. Someone with full control must grant access; if a business-owned Page is moving to a different business, its release process must also be completed. If access is lost or disputed, use Meta's available recovery or support options; approval is not guaranteed.

Is adding an admin the same as transferring ownership?

No. Giving a person Facebook access with full control lets them manage the Page, but does not move it out of an owning business portfolio. Check Business account access and complete the release and addition to the receiving portfolio if business ownership must change.

Can I transfer a Facebook Page using my phone?

Page-access options may be available in the Facebook app, with menus varying by device and account. If the required control is missing, use a desktop browser and Meta Business Suite to inspect Page and business settings. The important checks are full control and business ownership, not a blanket desktop-only rule.

What happens if the new owner does not accept the invitation?

Their access remains pending, so the person-to-person handover is not complete. Check the invited profile or email and ask them to accept while signed into the correct account. Keep the current owner's access until the recipient can manage the Page.

Will the Page keep its posts, followers and reviews?

A change of access or owning business keeps the same Page; it does not create a new one. Existing posts, photos, followers and reviews stay with that Page. Check connected tools separately, because their permissions may need attention after the handover.

Can HiFiveStar manage Facebook reviews after the transfer?

Yes. Once the Facebook Page is connected, HiFiveStar checks its reviews hourly and brings them into the Reviews inbox on every plan. Paid plans add AI reply drafts; for Facebook, you edit, copy and paste the reply on Facebook rather than publishing it from HiFiveStar.
